We are seeking an experienced Architectural Specification Writer to develop, coordinate, and maintain project specifications that clearly communicate design intent, quality standards, and technical requirements. This role works closely with architects, designers, consultants, and project managers to ensure specifications are accurate, coordinated with drawings, and compliant with applicable codes and standards. Position can be based out of Riverside, Sacramento or Carlsbad.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, edit, and maintain architectural specifications for a variety of project types and delivery methods using Deltek SpecPoint software.
- Coordinate specifications with architectural drawings and consultant documents to ensure consistency and accuracy
- Research building products, materials, systems, and construction methods
- Review and incorporate applicable building codes, standards, and regulations into specifications
- Collaborate with project teams to resolve technical issues and clarify design intent
- Assist in developing and maintaining office master specifications and specification standards
- Respond to contractor and consultant questions related to specifications during bidding and construction
- Stay current with industry trends, materials, sustainability standards, and best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience as an architectural specification writer or in a related architectural/technical role
- Strong knowledge of CSI MasterFormat
- Familiarity with building codes, industry standards, and construction practices
- Experience with specification software (e.g., MasterSpec, SpecLink, or similar)
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong collaboration and coordination skill.
- Strong knowledge of California Building Code and Division of State Architect requirements.
Preferred Skills (Optional)
- CSI certification (CDT, CCS, or CCCA)
- Experience with sustainable design standards (LEED, WELL, etc.)
- Familiarity with BIM workflows and coordination processes
